Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Add flour, salt, evaporated milk, egg, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Roll out the dough and cut it into squares.
  • Heat oil to 375°F (190°C) and fry the beignets until golden brown.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
